confidentiality policy

The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without your written permission.

Exceptions include:

• Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

• If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.

• If a client intends to harm themselves, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.

If one of these situations occur, I will make every effort to fully discuss it with you before taking any action.

Social Media

Due to the importance of your privacy and the importance of minimizing dual relationships, I do not accept friend or contact requests from current or former clients on any social networking sites (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter etc). Adding clients as friends or contacts on these sites can compromise your confidentiality and our respective privacy. It may also blur the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship.

Because the security of email communication cannot be guaranteed, it is recommended that email be limited to requests for phone contact, appointment arrangements, or requests for information. Please only include general information about yourself and your treatment. Any communication that requires immediate attention or a timely response should be made by phone.

I participate in professional consultations with other psychotherapists. In such cases neither your name nor any other identifying information about you will be revealed.

If you have questions about my privacy policies, please bring them up when we meet and we can talk more about them.
